Many divorcing couples have had, or will allege, a substance use disorder in one or both person's background. This discussion will define the symptoms of a substance use disorder and offer strategies to assure the parties are competent to enter into a collaborative agreement, competent to parent, and free of active addiction. Evaluation and monitoring tools will be identified. A model for a step-up parenting plan will be presented.
