Divorce is one of the most stressful life events a person can experience - whether wanted or not. This program will present the neuropscience underlying the human stress response and the emotional-behavioral responses that result, going beyond fight, flight, freeze. When the stress-response system is aroused it inhibits the social connection system. These reactions can interfere with the thinking and problem-solving necessary in a mediated or collaborative divorce. Participants will learn to recognize stress reactions in themselves and their clients. Interventions to recover composure, presence, and the possiblity of compassion will be presented.
