Profession(s)
Attorney, Mediator, OtherMy interest in family law stems from my long history of child welfare advocacy, and I believe collaborative divorce is a great way for parents to put their kids first.
I began my career as a child protection trial attorney after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 2006. As an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Alaska and then Washington D.C., I engaged in daily hearings, frequent mediations and over 30 trials to achieve the best outcome for each child in government custody. These cases involved all types of child neglect and abuse, domestic violence, mental illness of the parent or child, parental drug abuse, visitation disputes, child placement preferences, establishing paternity and enforcing paternal rights, inter-state and international custody issues, child guardianships, abiding by the Indian Child Welfare Act, termination or relinquishment of parental rights, and adoption eligibility.
I then worked for the United States Department of Justice for several years, assisting the FBI Arizona office in criminal investigations, such as child welfare violations on Native American Reservations, online child pornography activity and international sex trafficking. After settling in the Seattle area, I worked for Amazon.com as Corporate Counsel for Business Conduct and Ethics but, during the pandemic, decided to return to my career of working with children and families.
I started my own legal practice where I was appointed as guardian ad litem for children in over 40 private family court cases while working as a certified family law mediator, a trained collaborative divorce attorney, and family law attorney for protective parents.
I have recently joined a group of family law practitioners who share my ideals. I now have access to the support and wisdom of this bright, open-minded, and open-hearted group of family law professionals., which will benefit my clients.
In my spare time, I enjoy exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest with my wonderful son, two rescue dogs, new and old friends, or any of my eight siblings who may visit me from across the country. I’m also pursuing my interest in publishing fun and meaningful books for young children.
