Mental Health Professional, PsychologistDr. Ding, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, obtained her master's degree in educational psychology from the University of Malaya in 2000. Following graduation, she gained professional experience in two educational organizations overseeing international schools, private schools, and kindergartens.
Subsequently, she pursued her master's degree in clinical psychology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia; completing it in 2007. She underwent her post-graduate training at Child Development Centre and Adult Psychiatry in UKM Medical Centre.
Dr. Ding is a registered clinical psychologist who worked at Hospital Kuala Lumpur for three years before establishing her private psychology and dyslexia centre, Ding Psychology Centre, where she has been providing services for the past 18 years. A pioneer in diagnosing and intervening with dyslexia, she developed the Ding Dyslexia Program.
Following that, Dr. Ding earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 2021 under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hjh. Firdaus Mukhtar, an internationally renowned professor in the field of cognitive behaviour therapy from Asia, as well as Professor Dato’ Lai Munn Sann, a distinctive, international researcher in the field of community health.
Dr. Ding also trained in multigenerational family and couple therapy, and is a family consultant of collaborative practice for separating couples and divorce. Her training in family therapy is under the guidance of three esteemed supervisors—Prof. Maurizio Andolfi, a renowned multigenerational family therapy expert from Italy; David Hong, a qualified systemic family therapy consultant from Australia; and Warren Tan, an experienced Satir systemic therapy consultant from Singapore. She also is attended a collaborative practice training under Marguerite Picard, Tricia Peters, and Dr. Tina Sinclair which was organised by Malaysian Collaborative Practice Group.
Dr. Ding is a trained practitioner in play therapy under Prof. Monika Jephcott and in neuro-dramatic play under Prof. Sue Jennings, both from the UK. Dr. Ding has also received training in Jungian-based sand therapy and expressive arts therapy from AP Dr. Diana-Lea Baranovich of PTI UK.
Professional Activities
Dr. Ding has been a pioneer in implementing Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) as a central approach in her clinical practice in Malaysia. Her early adoption of CBT reflects a commitment to evidence-based practices, emphasizing the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Dr. Ding's therapeutic expertise extends across a wide range of ages, demonstrating versatility in addressing the unique needs of children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Ding's success stories are characterized by long-term positive outcomes. Beyond the conventional applications of CBT, expands her toolkit in various modern CBTs. Dr. Ding's commitment to advancing the field extends beyond her clinical practice. She actively engages in and contributes to CBT research, staying abreast of the latest developments and ensuring her interventions are informed by the most current evidence. With a rich background of 24 years in treating various mental health and relationship concerns of different aged individuals, Dr. Ding emphasizes the inseparable connection between an individual's psychopathology and his family of origin. Her goal is to assist children, adults, couples, and families in breaking their inherited chains of trauma, promoting individuation, and fostering transformative processes towards authentic self and healthy relationships. Through a multigenerational family therapeutic lens, she explores the roots of current problems in previous generations, often manifested in children who become the identified patients. She considers various contextual factors and collaborates with clients of all ages to address underlying familial issues, promote balanced relationships, and enhance individual resilience and their overall well-being. Dr. Ding is not only a practitioner but also a mentor, sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience with emerging psychologists. Dr. Ding served two terms each as Honorary Treasurer and currently is the Auditor for the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology (MSCP).
