Profession(s)

Lawyer

Trained in mediation and collaborative law, I am committed to helping couples resolve disputes in a clear compassionate manner. I have limited my practice to collaborative, co-operative and mediation matters in order to give my clients the reassurance they need to trust that their disputes will not end up in the adversarial court system. I am firmly committed to the interdisciplinary model of collaborative law and believe that clients are best served by a team approach.

My conflict resolution training began with alternative dispute resolution skills training at the University of Victoria Law School, followed by coursework at the Justice Institute of British Columbia and the Law Society of British Columbia. I refocused my law practice on family issues in the spring of 2003, having previously practiced general commercial and family law litigation. I am a former Directors of the BC Collaborative Roster Society, am the past co-chair and member of the executive of the Collaborative Divorce Association of Vancouver, and am active in the areas of public education and provincial team building.
People are more than just their current struggles. We are beings with deeply held beliefs, hopes and doubts. For those clients who wish to engage a professional with a faith perspective, I am involved in a small community church in Victoria and work to bring to my practice a respectful viewpoint of the emotional and spiritual aspects of divorce and separation.

Comments

I have limited my practice to collaborative practice and mediation with the goal that all my professional efforts are focused on a client-based, client empowered settlement. I happily work along side those who work in the litigation system but have made a personal choice to restrict my practice to non-litigation models of dispute resolution.

I am active locally, regionally and internationally in the Collaborative Community in education and marketing endeavours, as well as community liason work between the various regions and professions.

I, along with Randy Levine and Morrie Sacks, opened the Collaborative Centre in September 2004. The Collaborative Centre is a working space shared by independent lawyers and coaches assisting families through their separations and divorces under one roof. It is believed to be the first such centre in all of North America where lawyers under one roof can assist both partners in their separation issues.
