Profession(s)
LawyerMore than simply helping clients resolve disputes, Garth Edwards helps clients reach settlements that provide a solid foundation for the future. With a practice devoted primarily to family law, Garth encourages clients to look forward, not backward, and find solutions that preserve family and assets. Garth is a strong proponent of collaborative law and mediation as smart, money-conserving approaches that do not destroy relationships or businesses, or escalate conflict.
Clients appreciate Garth’s straightforward, earthy style of communicating. He clearly explains their options and possible outcomes so they can feel comfortable making decisions. In addition, his understanding of financial matters helps clients protect their long-term interests.
An experienced litigator, Garth is equally effective whether arguing in the Supreme Court/Court of Appeal or in a collaborative, solution-oriented setting. He believes that collaborative law is well suited to settling complex divorces because it offers additional resources for the family and also more creative options than are available through the court. In all that he does, Garth strives to create solutions that bring lasting value to all the parties involved.
Garth was admitted to the British Columbia Bar in 1984. He is a patron of the arts and is a member of the men’s choir, Chor Leoni. Garth is a founding director and past president of the Richmond Concert Association and chair of the Richmond Gateway Theatre Endowment Fund. He is a member of and past president of the Richmond Sunrise Rotary Club and past assistant district governor for Rotary International.
